Murtezani: Any solution that will ensure the country's EU membership process will be acceptable to us

"Our insistence is not for a specific solution, but for the debilateralization of the further EU membership process. Any solution that we consider ensures the country's EU membership process will be acceptable to us", says the Minister of European Affairs and the chief negotiator with the EU, Orhan Murtezani.

"That the negotiation framework cannot be changed, we knew before. The same thing has been repeated several times in all high-level meetings in Brussels and beyond. Our insistence is not for a specific solution, but for the debilateralization of the further EU membership process. Any solution that we consider to ensure the country's EU membership process will be acceptable to us. Those solutions that mean exactly, what are the techniques, formulations, etc. remains to be resolved through a negotiation process. But our position is to protect ourselves from further blockades", Murtezani said when asked what is the Government's tactic or plan after messages from Brussels that constitutional changes with delayed effect are an unimaginable scenario, as is the change in the negotiating framework for the country.

Asked if this means that a form of guarantee is required to be obtained from Bulgaria that no further bilateral issues will be opened within the European integration process, he emphasized that the focus is to ensure the finalization of this process.

"Whether the guarantees from neighboring Bulgaria will be from some institution or we will do it bilaterally, or what the form will be, is not as important as the essence. We as a state and as a Government must be sure that this process will end", said Minister Murtezani.
