Mucunski in Brussels: EU membership is not only political ambition, but an essential transformative process

The head of diplomacy of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Timço Mucunski, today had a speech and a question-and-answer session with MEPs - members of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET).

To the members of the commission, Mucunski sent a message that the new Government is very focused on European integration and the implementation of reforms. He stressed that it is essential for the country to continue progress towards full EU membership, following a predictable membership trajectory, based on clearly defined membership criteria and the principle of its own merits. At the same time, he emphasized that good neighborliness is not a unilateral obligation, but a long-term process that requires joint responsibility and mutual respect.

The minister stressed that EU membership is not only a political ambition, but an essential transformative process that puts citizens at the center. He emphasized the commitment of the Government to the implementation of key reforms, especially in the field of rule of law, justice, public administration and economic management.

In his speech, Mucunski recalled that the country is fully in line with the EU's common foreign and security policy – ​​a strategic choice and top priority that shows our commitment to the principles and values ​​that the Union stands for.

Answering the questions of the members of the commission, Mucunski emphasized that North Macedonia is an example of respecting and protecting the rights of minorities.
