The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that an 82-year-old woman from Skopje was defrauded by a person who introduced himself as a police officer, taking from her an amount of approximately 170.000 denars.
According to the complaint, the fraudster contacted the victim by phone and told her that her niece had caused a traffic accident in which a child had died, and that she had to pay to avoid arrest.
The victim, believing the story, went out into the street and handed the money to a man. Later, she realized that her niece had not been involved in any accident, and that she had fallen victim to the scam.
The Ministry of Interior announced that all measures are being taken to fully clarify the case.
