Low back pain, how to recognize it

Avoid heavy weights, maintain the body's ability to move organically

Sciatica, lumbago, lower back pain have already become popular, especially in big cities, where people work in closed and automated environments and where little time is left to make lively movements that can keep the body in shape, the vertebral column, the ability of the body to move agilely, quickly and organically. Or on the contrary, people are forced to make the same movements, which lead to occupational diseases and, first of all, to sciatica.

Many people suffer from back and back pain for years. Lumbargias (tears), sciatica, hernias... what people usually call lower back pain, Telegrafi reports.

A large percentage complain that they suffer from lumbago, lower back pain around the kidneys, etc. But the reasons can be many. Of course, they should not be neglected: you should immediately intervene, so that your life does not become physically painful.

As is known, between the two vertebrae of the spine there is a disk-shaped cartilage, this disk helps to prevent the surfaces of the bones from rubbing against each other, simultaneously ensuring elasticity, weight distribution and ease of movement. When this support is damaged, it is displaced and loses its functions, pressing on the nerve roots and causing pain: this is sciatica.

From lumbago to disc herniation

You suffer from lumbar neuralgia when the vertebral disc joint, or a fragment of it, protrudes from the annulus fibrosus. This action releases enzymes (phospholipase A2) with a great inflammatory power. The disease, first of all, is caused by the inflammation of the nerve root by these enzymes. Any compression and oppression of the excited nerve brings about this phenomenon.

If the herniation is at the back (posterior) of the disc, it may be in contact with the spinal nerve. So an electrical discharge is caused by the irritation and compression of the nerve and the pain can spread throughout the extension of the nerve.

According to the vertebral level of the nerve root, it can be a sciatica (the sciatic nerve that leads the nerves to the back of the thigh and leg), or a cruralgia (kryralgia - the "crural" nerve located in the front, at the base of the thigh ).

Low back pain or lower back pain?

The history of lumbago is almost the same. It is the story of the one who, as it were, bought the cinema ticket, but before entering, it falls: he sits down to pick it up, and from this sudden movement he feels pain.

The result: he didn't get to see the movie that night, as he was blocked by the pain. And this often happens when we lift heavy weights. In this case, the disc joint is pressed by a heavy weight and immediately. It is at this moment that the disc herniation tears several layers of the annulus fibrosus.

The pain is caused by irritation of the sinu-vertebral nerve that supplies nerve to the periphery of the disc. Pain causes a protective reaction, which results in painful contraction of the lumbar muscles.

Lumbargias of posterior articular origin

Let's remember that the vertebrae articulate with each other through the intervertebral disc and two joints. In all movements, these joints play the role of direction.

Lumbar pains, as a result of the back joints, correspond to overloads or prolonged pressure in a bad position. They can also appear in children and teenagers with an accentuation of lumbar "lordosis" (pit), especially in girls, or from sports overload.

In elderly people, the lack of combination of compressions and decompressions of the intervertebral disc rapidly deteriorates the surface of the cartilage of the joint and then we have the beginning of an arthrosis. Overloading often comes with weight gain or from disc-arthrosis (aging of the disc). So the disc no longer plays its role and the weight of the body is supported by the rear joints.

Low back pain is a crisis of low back pain, strong or mild. Often the crisis comes during weight lifting, strong cough, etc. The circumstances causing the crisis are identical to those of lumbo-sciatica, but also affect the posterior vertebral arch and where the imbalance affects the disc. What distinguishes lumbago from severe lumbago-sciatica is the absence of sciatica pain. Lumbar markings are the same.

Is lower back pain hereditary?

Degeneration of the intervertebral disc occurs in all people and is undoubtedly related to age. In the child, the discs are very rich in water and little by little they become fibrous to adapt to the growth of the spine and the increase in body weight, Telegrafi reports.

In adults, the disc begins to collapse, that is, it degenerates more or less quickly, depending on the person. This is noticed more in men than in women. When the intervertebral disc is overused and thin it cannot play its role as a natural shock absorber.

Sciatica, a terrible pain

When you move house and try to lift heavy cartons, suddenly a sharp pain paralyzes your leg. The pain seems to go from the buttocks, thigh and leg, to the sole of the foot. A spinal contracture can even prevent a person from bending forward.

Sometimes the pain goes all the way to the knee and the factor that causes this is not easily understood. The pain is increased by the effort we make, coughing or sneezing. Pressures and bending forces are concentrated at the base of the vertebral column. Thus, the most frequently affected nerves are those of the first and fifth (sacral) lumbar roots.

Sciatica is also caused by environmental factors, stress, obesity, smoking and psychological decline. But in most cases, doctors associate sciatica with intervertebral discs. /Telegraph/
