'Like a bomb': The moment an electric Mercedes burst into flames before flames spread to its owners' home in England

Some footage captured by surveillance cameras is said to show the moment a Mercedes EV worth around 60 euros burst into flames, before the fire spread to a family home.

According to foreign media, Telegrafi reports, the car was parked outside the house for 10 hours and was not even being charged when it "spontaneously exploded".

In the video, the EQA model SUV can be seen just meters from the home of owners Scott and Georgina Bayliss in Spratton, Northamptonshire, England.

And a cloud of steam begins to flow from the bottom of the vehicle for a few seconds.

Then, without any further warning, it suddenly burst into flames.

Within ten seconds, the fire shot towards the engine cover and windshield, despite the fact that it was raining at the time.

Scott can be seen rushing out of the house and grabbing a hose to put out the flames.

Neighbors also rushed to help, but the entire car was engulfed in flames within a minute.

Scott recalls: “My son thought someone was setting off fireworks but then there was a very loud noise like a bomb. There were flames everywhere."

"The speed and ferocity with which the fire engulfed the entire car and almost the entire front of our house was terrifying."

"Then the next few hours were chaos."

"The initial investigator found that the vehicle was in such bad condition that it was difficult to determine what the cause was."

"Luckily we were still awake, but it could have happened in the middle of the night when we were asleep."

Firefighters later confirmed that the property's garage was on fire, with smoke engulfing the bedroom. /Telegraph/
