Kaja Kallas prepares the ground, what awaits Lajçak's successor?

The successor of the EU emissary for dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, in his office and in the field, will face a rich legacy of many agreements on many topics, most importantly the Ohrid Agreement and the sequencing plan, products of the Franco- German.

When it was thought that the much-criticized Lajcak would continue his career as EU ambassador in Switzerland, his mandate was extended until January 2025.

The end-of-year holidays and the elections have also put the dialogue process on hold. Late winter or early spring may bring the new European emissary.

People familiar with the dialogue process think that the Slovak Lajcak will not be remembered for his positive legacy, but will be remembered for behavior that has weakened the credibility of the European Union.

"In certain periods at certain moments it has also been one-sided, let's take it some time ago here in Prishtina he declared that Prishtina has withdrawn the letter of Prime Minister Brnabić about the Franco-German agreement, and then it was seen that it was a lie". said analyst Melazim Koci.

The former president of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, the Danish Peter Sorensen, the former ambassador of the EU in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Pekka Haavisto, the former foreign minister of Finland, are the names that have been mentioned by the media, but the definitive answer to this questions will given by the former Prime Minister of Estonia.

The new head of diplomacy of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, before deciding on Lajcak's successor, had taken care to meet them in December and get to know closely the positions and concerns of the parties.

Kallas had condemned the terrorist attack in Ibër Lepenc and had demanded that the perpetrators be punished, besides this he had made it known that the Ohrid Agreement is the map through which he will move on the ground.

Prime Minister Kurti had stated that Kallas is at the right time and place, while Vuçiqi, instead of comments, had indicated that the Estonian asked for measures against Russia and clarification of the terrorist attack in Banjska.

Analyst Koci, estimates that the arrival of Kalla is good news, in a very difficult period within Europe.

"I am optimistic, but I still say that not everything depends on it, it subverts the politics of 27 countries, and such a thing has become very difficult in the European Union, you see that in the EU there is penetration of the extreme forces of right-wing openly pro-Russia. And in such circumstances, making a unified policy, unifying the EU policy seems mission impossible", said analyst Melazim Koci.

Koci estimates that the Franco-German agreement has failed, and it is difficult to implement and remain alive, despite any movement in names and leadership positions within the EU.

According to him, sending the draft to the Constitutional Court does not lead anywhere, so we should wait to determine the direction of the compass based on the orientation that the Trump administration will choose./Dukagjin/
