Julia Roberts diagnosed with rare disease: Everything you need to know

This disease is caused by the immune system creating antibodies against platelets
A few days ago, it was announced that Celine Dion suffers from Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare disease that has forced her to cancel her tour.
The artist is not the only one with something so rare, as there is also an actress who has been suffering from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura for more than 15 years. Julia Roberts struggles with this disease, where the body does not have enough platelets.
Although the pathology has never prevented her from continuing her professional career, Julia Roberts must undergo treatment every day, just like any other person who suffers from it. The 'Pretty Woman' star was alarmed by the appearance of some bruises and it was her husband, Daniel Moder, who asked her to see a doctor to see what was going on.
When she did, she was diagnosed with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, which can sometimes have no symptoms, but if it does, they are as follows:
▪ Few or many spots that appear without any apparent cause,
▪ Small red-violet dots on the skin, especially on the lower part of the legs, caused by bleeding under the skin,
▪ Bleeding from the palate and nose,
▪ Blood in the urine and colon.
▪ Women may have heavier menstrual bleeding.
This disease is caused by the immune system making antibodies against platelets, which causes the spleen to destroy them, thus reducing the levels of platelets in the body.
Treatment for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura is sometimes reduced to medical checkups that test platelet levels, according to specialist websites. The usual approach is to focus on increasing the platelet count and, in more severe cases, to remove the spleen directly.
The drugs used for Julia Roberts' disease range from steroids to immunoglobulin, romiplostim, eltrombopag and rituximab, all of which are designed to increase platelet levels and also reduce the immune system's response as it tries to destroy them. .
