Jaguar Land Rover recalls SUVs for oil leaks that could cause engine fires

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling approximately 2100 SUVs due to oil leaks that could potentially "set the engine on fire" and create dangerous conditions for other drivers.

According to foreign media, several models from both brands are affected, including the Jaguar F-Pace along with five Land Rovers: Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar, Discovery and Defender.

The recall is said to only apply to units from the 2024 model year.

In total, 1995 Land Rovers are included in the recall, which is broken down into 910 Defenders, 235 Discovery SUVs, 303 Range Rovers, 500 Range Rover Sports and 47 Range Rover Velars – including 133 Jaguar F-Paces.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem stems from the oil filter, which was apparently manufactured using incorrect specifications for the type of plastic.

This means that over time the plastic will crack, eventually leading to oil leaking into the engine bay.

The oil could potentially end up dripping onto hot engine components, which could cause a fire.

The NHSTA documents also note that oil can flow onto the road, creating a hazard for other drivers. /Telegraph/
