The Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Nikolai Patrushev, is the person who directed the operation to kill Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The head of the Wagner group, Prigozhin, died a few months ago, after the plane he was on board with nine other people crashed. Reported Telegraph.

Now, the American newspaper reports that the leader of this operation was Patrushev, a close friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Western intelligence officials and a former Russian intelligence officer told The Journal that Prigozhin's death in August was instigated and approved by the 72-year-old.

There have been numerous accusations against the Russian president Putin, who was considered responsible and responsible for the death of the head of the Wagner group.

This is because, before the plane incident, Prigozhin had made a rebellion against the Russian military leadership and headed with his army towards Moscow, abandoning the positions in Ukraine.

But before he arrived in Moscow, an agreement was reached to end the uprising. Prigozhin had complained the day before that the regular Russian army had bombed the group's camps and occasionally complained of a lack of ammunition.

Former Russian intelligence officer Patrushev ordered his aide in August to plan an operation to kill Prigozhin.

A small bomb was planted under the plane's wing during a delay when security inspectors were searching the plane, Western intelligence officials told The Journal.

Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesman, told Reuters he would not comment on the matter. /Telegraph/
