"It's a shame what they're doing" - Harry Kane hits out at England teammates

England captain Harry Kane has hit out at the eight Premier League players who were withdrawn from international duty ahead of their Nations League challenges.

He told ITV: “I think England are ahead of everything. It is in front of the club and it is the most important thing that plays as a professional footballer".

"Gareth was strict about it and he wasn't afraid to make decisions if it started to show in some players. It's a shame for sure. Yes, I think it's a difficult period of the season and maybe he benefited a little from that."

"I don't really like it to be completely honest. I think, as I said, England is before everything, every club situation. The joy of playing for England."

"I think Gareth brought it back. Every build-up, people were excited to come, every build-up people wanted to play for England and, yes, that's the most important thing," he further added.

Some of the Premier League stars who have withdrawn from duty due to injuries are Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden.

England face Greece and the Republic of Ireland in their next two Nations League games, needing to win both to progress through the group stage. /Telegraph/
