Art, at its core, has always been a mirror of the human spirit, a reflection of who we are and what we dream of becoming. In every era, artists have sought new ways to express their inner world, experimenting and challenging the limits of what is possible. Today, thanks to technology and endless imagination, modern art is moving into a new dimension, embracing designs that challenge traditional perception and open doors to the unknown. One of these new journeys is art created through Artificial Intelligence (AI), a collaboration between the human mind and the power of machinery - the algorithm.
Imagine a painter who does not hold a brush in his hand, but commands coded algorithms that create soulful paintings. Or a sculptor who uses robots to carve marble with a precision that rivals Michelangelo. This is the art of our time, a symbiosis between the creative mind and technology that takes us to new horizons.
Examples are not few. RoboCNC, a robot in Italy, has amazed the world by recreating marble sculptures with the elegance and precision of Renaissance masters. As a silent voice of the past, it brings to life forms and lines that take us back in time, but which are the result of future technology. This experiment is a proof of how art and technology are not opponents, but partners that jointly build a new reality.
This is not the first time that art challenges the rules and forms new models. In the Renaissance, Michelangelo used the "sfumato" technique to create shadows that looked more real than life itself. In the 20th century, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque brought about Cubism, breaking up and reconstructing reality so that the viewer could see the world from multiple angles at once.
But unlike previous eras, where innovation came primarily from within man, we are now seeing a fundamental shift: technology has become co-creative. AI algorithms are not just tools; are collaborators who bring a new approach to creation. However, this does not diminish the role of the artist. He remains the mastermind and creative leader of the process, using modern tools to shape his vision with unprecedented precision and depth. Technology is not a substitute, but a supporter that empowers the artist to realize ideas that previously might have seemed impossible, always preserving the author's unique stamp on each work.
To get to this point, experiments have been conducted that challenge everything we know about art. In laboratories like WITH Media Lab, artists and scientists are exploring experiences that go beyond the ordinary eye. One such project used artificial intelligence to create paintings that evolve on their own, reacting to the viewer's emotions. Another example is Edmond de Belamy, a portrait created entirely by AI, that not only challenged the idea of authorship, but also set world auction records.
These experiments lead us to a deep question: Is it still art? Or is it something more? The answer, as always, lies in the soul of art – its ability to touch our hearts and minds.
As we move into the future, art will not stop evolving. Virtual and augmented reality, creative robots and self-learning algorithms are just the beginning. In this endless journey, artists and technologists will continue to explore, building a universe where the past and the future merge.
Modern art is not only a reflection of our age, but an invitation to think differently. And, perhaps, this is what art has always done – it has challenged us to see the world with new eyes and to believe that, through creativity, anything is possible.
However, I believe that art, despite its technological evolution, must always keep within itself the natural human element. The essence of artistic creation lies in the artist's ability to carry his energy as a human being - the kind of energy that is related not only to emotions and imagination, but also to a deeper dimension, similar to "quantum physics". In this sense, art becomes a unique projection of this particular energy, embedded and conceived in the created work.
Even when the artist uses another intelligence – artificial or of any other nature – it should be a kind of extension of his consciousness and creativity. This ensures that each work remains authentic, a unique expression of the interplay between human nature and the endless potential of modern tools. Art, after all, is a testament to the artist's soul and a reflection of the world he or she wants to create.
