Former President Hashim Thaçi's father passes away

Haxhi Thaçi, father of former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi, has died at the age of 86.

The news was announced by PDK chairman Memli Krasniqi, through the social network Facebook.

"It was with deep sorrow that I received the news of the passing of Haxhi Thaçi, the father of President Hashim Thaçi. Today, after a long battle with illness, not only a man passed away, but a father who gave Kosovo a liberator, a man who, with his dedication and education, helped to birth a new era for our nation."

"My deepest condolences to President Thaçi, the Thaçi family and the entire Albanian nation. Haxhi Thaçi was more than a parent – ​​he was a strong pillar of patriotic values, a wise and noble man, who left behind an immortal legacy in our history. May he rest in peace," Krasniqi wrote.

Haxhi Thaçi was hospitalized at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo in Pristina, where he was being treated for his serious health condition.

On March 13, 2025, former President Hashim Thaçi, who has been in detention in The Hague since November 2020, received permission to visit his father in the hospital.

The visit lasted about three hours and took place under strict security measures.

After the visit, Thaçi returned to detention in The Hague.
