How does your sense of smell change during the days of your menstrual cycle?

Have you ever noticed that your sense of smell changes during your menstrual cycle? Or maybe you haven't realized that it's this time of the month again that has a direct impact on you, but this week you want certain scents and then you don't?

You are not alone! Because it turns out, your hormones can affect your sense of smell. Yes, true!

Research shows that changing hormones have an impact on how we smell or how we smell.

According to a study conducted by the Institute of Psychology, the rise and fall of estrogen and progesterone levels during the menstrual cycle can make us more sensitive to perfumes or other different scents.

Gabrielle Lichterman, founder of Hormonology, shared some seriously interesting research on exactly how your period can affect your sense of smell.

First week (menstruation)

Starting on the first day of your period (until the seventh day of your cycle), estrogen levels are at their lowest, increasing day by day. Your sense of smell begins to decrease and then increase during the weekdays, which means that you are quite indifferent to the smell during this week.

Second week (follicular phase)

Estrogen peaks during the second week of your cycle are unbearable, like the sense of smell. This does not mean that you will despise all smells, in fact, it may be a week in which your heightened senses tell you that you want certain fragments of scents. This may mean that you don't like the scents that you used to prefer.

Third week (follicular phase)

During the third week of your cycle, estrogen levels begin to drop while progesterone and testosterone rise. Interestingly, some researchers believe that we tend to like fatty foods around this time of the month, while our sense of smell is heightened specifically to take in calorie-dense food. People are wise.

Fourth week (luteal phase)

During the last week of your cycle, your estrogen levels drop, which is why you can often get easily upset around this time. This causes irritation that is affected by strong senses (loud noises, unpleasant tastes, etc.), so if you have a strong sense of smell during this time, you may be more likely to feel overwhelmed and dislike it. /Telegraph/
