The difference between allergies and viruses, allergist Ylli Ahmetaj speaks

Allergist Ylli Ahmetaj, during the podcast "Health in Order", supported by United Hospital, explained the main differences between allergic reactions and viral or bacterial infections, emphasizing that these two conditions are often confused due to similar symptoms.
Ahmetaj explains that allergic reactions usually manifest with cold-like symptoms, such as watery eyes, sneezing, coughing, itchy ears and, in some cases, difficulty breathing, depending on the severity of the allergy.
In rarer cases, skin changes may also appear, such as hives.
However, the main difference between allergies and infections lies in temperature.
"Allergic reactions mainly manifest in a vasomotor form, with more pronounced watering, sneezing and coughing, but without fever. From the moment a fever appears, we can then lean towards viral or bacterial infections," Ahmeti emphasized.
According to him, temperature is a very important indicator for making the correct distinction between allergies and infectious diseases, as allergic reactions are not accompanied by an increase in body temperature.
