How to deal with male infertility?
Assoc. Prof. Arbër Neziri, urologist

Often, men experience their infertility as a loss of virility - as the inability to fertilize the female egg cell. In addition, some fertility tests can be uncomfortable, even humiliating.

For most men, the only sign of a low sperm count is the inability to fertilize a female egg cell. A couple is considered infertile if they fail to conceive a child after one year of regular intercourse.

If hormonal disorders are the cause, there are also some signs, such as reduction of body and facial hair, or problems with sexual functions.

causes

Varicocele: The term refers to dilation of the veins of the pampiniform plexus that can affect sperm production. This common cause can be removed with surgical intervention.

Damage to the spermatic cord: Injuries, infections, and surgeries can damage the vas deferens, which carry sperm from the testicles to the penis.

Anti-sperm antibodies: Men who have anti-sperm antibodies have an immune system that attacks their own sperm. This condition is often seen in men who have a vasectomy reversal, then infections or during injuries.

Problems with sperm production: There are problems with hereditary-genetic causes such as Klinefelter syndrome or hormonal disorders, such as pituitary damage. If we have a hereditary health problem, the possibility is greater of having a complete lack of sperm in the semen (azoospermia).

Risk factors

Genetic or hormonal problems. Certain health conditions, such as Klinefelter Syndrome or problems with hormone production, affect sperm production.

Opioid abuse.  Sperm count can be reduced by the use of illegal substances, such as cocaine or marijuana.

smoking affects the reduction of sperm count.

Excessive fatness causes hormonal changes that affect sperm production.

Poisons from the external environment. Radiation, various chemicals, some medications, and excessive heat can reduce sperm production.

Treatment of carcinoma

Radiological, chemotherapeutic treatment may jeopardize sperm production.

Surgical interventions and injuries can affect the testicles, the production of sperm.

Therapy and drugs

Varicocele removal: Surgical intervention for varicocele can improve sperm count and increase the chance of pregnancy.

Hormone replacement: If the pituitary gland or hypothalamus does not produce significant amounts of the hormone, then replacement therapy (gonadotropin injections) must be taken. In some cases, the therapy must be taken for another year and a half until normal fertility is achieved.

Treatment of infections: If blood tests reveal a high number of leukocytes, it is possible that we have an infection that affects sperm production.

Preventive:

Do not smoke. Smoking can damage sperm and jeopardize sperm production.

Stop taking excessive amounts of alcoholic beverages; drinking more than 2 alcoholic drinks in 24 hours in men reduces sperm production and affects libido.

Stay away from opioid drugs. Substances such as marijuana and cocaine reduce sperm production.

Stay in shape: Obesity also reduces spermatogenesis.

Stay cool. Stay away from saunas and hot water baths, because prolonged thermal exposure can reduce sperm count.

Regular food. Consuming sufficient amounts of fruits and vegetables, as well as nuts, etc., affects the supply of the body with vitamins and minerals, essential for the body and the regular functioning of the reproductive system. /Telegraph/
