How to act when your baby swallows an object: Keep these six actions in mind!

If the child swallows an object while crawling, it can suffocate

Toddlers put everything they can reach in their mouths. In that case, the baby can suffocate and, in the worst case, start to choke.

The brain is then deprived of oxygen for 3 to 5 minutes. If the lack of breathing lasts longer, brain damage can occur.

For this reason, provide first aid immediately! - reports the Telegraph.

The first action

Place the baby on your lap face down or in the crib, the head should be lower than the rib cage.

Second action

Hit the child 5 times lightly on the back with a slap between the shoulders. In that case, the upper part of the child's body should be bent forward.

The third action

If the child is unable to cough up the object, turn him on his back, place him on your lap, while stabilizing his head with your hand. The head should again be lower compared to the ribcage.

The fourth act

Press 5 times with two fingers in the middle of the rib cage just below the nipple line.

The fifth act

Repeat this action until the child throws out the swallowed object or until it starts to cry loudly.

The sixth act

If the affected child cannot cough up the swallowed object, call 911 and continue to provide first aid.

Important: Do not apply mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until the object is in the airway.

Important:  Never rock or shake the baby! /Telegraph/
