How Phil Foden's request was denied during the deep FA Cup win over Chelsea

Phil Foden had a claim turned down in Manchester City's 4-0 win over Chelsea in the FA Cup.
The Englishman was on the scoresheet as City beat the Blues for the third time this season, reaching third in a comfortable FA Cup third round win.
But he also wanted to double his tally in that match, in the second half after winning a penalty. Foden was pushed back by Bernardo Silva and then tackled by Kalidou Koulibaly inside the box.
Referee Rob Jones noted that scene and decided to award a penalty and Foden fancied his chances. However, Riyad Mahrez, already on the list of scorers with a goal from a free kick, did not move from the penalty spot and took responsibility.
The Algerian star had missed three of his last four penalties for City, but having already found the net twice against Chelsea this season, he felt confident.
He immediately hit the ball and beat Kepa Arrizabalagaa for the second time, who was shot the wrong way. World Cup winner Julian Alvarez also scored from the penalty spot.
"Julian asked me, and I said yes because I thought he's a striker and it's important that they score - he's just come back from the World Cup and it's his first game as well, so I was thinking of letting him shoot the penalty," Mahrez revealed after the match, according to Manchester Evening News.
“I was thinking if I had a second one I would take it and even Phil when he asked me I wanted to let him shoot but I let Julian have the first one so I had to take this one. Phil scored a goal, Julian Alvarez scored, I scored - everyone was involved - that's the most important thing."
The England international now has eight goals in all competitions and City will be hoping he can repeat his performance against Manchester United in this Saturday's derby. /Telegraph/
