Used Tires: How Safe Are They?

Drivers try to save money at every turn, even when buying tires.

For many, the goal is to reduce the cost of owning a car as much as possible, but care must be taken not to jeopardize the safety of you and your family.

You can often find ads for the sale of used tires, and this form of trade has become popular due to the low standard of living and the lower prices of such tires.

In the United Kingdom, the quality of used tires was tested and they came up with a disturbing result: of 129 individually inspected tires, up to 75% were assessed as unsafe, reports the Telegraph.

The association that carried out the research, TyreSafe, declared these tragic results.

"How is it possible that three quarters of used tires on sale are unsafe? Since tires are the only part of a vehicle in contact with the asphalt, selling such tires to drivers is tantamount to putting their lives at risk," said Stuart Jackson, president of TyreSafe.

Similar to buying other used items, only in this case the word dangerous should be taken literally.

Some of us can't afford new tires, but if you're already buying used tires, take a good look.

But even if you're buying used tires, make sure they don't have visible damage that could affect their performance. /Telegraph/
