French hospitals have been ordered to prepare for an imminent war in Europe, while Germany says it is on alert for Russian military exercises, writes the Daily Mail.

France's Health Ministry has told health authorities across the country to prepare for a possible 'major commitment' by March 2026, according to documents obtained by Le Canard Enchaîné.

The French government is envisioning a scenario where the nation will become a supporting state, with the capacity to receive large numbers of wounded soldiers from France and other European countries.

The order aims to 'anticipate, prepare for and respond to the health needs of the population, integrating specific protection needs in the health field,' the Telegraph reports.

The Ministry of Health added: 'Among the risks identified, therefore, is the hypothesis of a major commitment where the health issue would consist of taking care of a potentially high influx of victims from abroad.'

'Therefore, it is a matter for our health system to provide for the care of military patients in the civilian health system.'

This comes after Germany's defense chief, Carsten Breuer, said that NATO and his country's forces would be on alert ahead of Russian military exercises.

Breuer said that while he does not expect Vladimir Putin's forces to attack NATO territory, as Russia conducts military exercises in Belarus with the Zapad 2025 exercise, his nation will be "on alert."

"We have no indication that preparations for an attack are being made under the cover of training. But we will be on alert, not only German forces, but also NATO," he added.

This comes amid fears that the world is on the brink of a Third World War that, according to NATO chief Mark Rutte, will be started by Russia and China.

He warned in July that combined attacks by Chinese and Russian leaders could trigger a nightmare of World War III and bring the planet to the brink of Armageddon.

According to the NATO chief, China will start by seeking to seize Taiwan - while ensuring the Kremlin leader simultaneously attacks NATO territory, amid fears that Putin is eyeing the Baltic republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, formerly part of the USSR. /Telegraph
