Ford Stops Production of F-150 Lightning, Brand Shares Why

Production of the Ford F-150 Lightning will reportedly stop for six weeks.

Production of the F-150 Lightning will reportedly be offline from Nov. 18, 2024, to Jan. 6, 2025, a six-week period that includes a week off in December, when it was originally scheduled to stop.

The production hiatus is the latest problem for the F-150 Lightning, which with its release in 2022 was expected to provide a significant boom in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, the Telegraph reports.

After introducing it as the second electric pickup truck in the US – just behind the Rivian R1T – Ford quickly ramped up production plans for the F-150 Lightning, following strong demand following first deliveries in 2022.

However, buyers soon began to walk away, resulting in numerous subsequent cuts to the production schedule.

In January, it was announced that it will work just one shift a day at the Ford F-150 Lightning production plant, down from a peak of three shifts when demand was highest.

The brand has also canceled plans to develop a three-row electric SUV. /Telegraph/
