Fillkov: An efficient judicial system is an important factor in the rule of law

The efficient judicial system has a key role in the rule of law, along with the quality and independence of the judiciary, stated the Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov, at the opening of the 15th session of the National Convention of the European Union in the Republic of North Macedonia.

Filkov stressed that an efficient judicial system is key to the rule of law and to fighting crime and corruption, as well as guaranteeing basic human rights and freedoms.

"An efficient judicial system plays a key role in the rule of law, along with the quality and independence of the judiciary. This is not only one of the main preconditions for creating a favorable investment and business environment, but also a key assumption for the fight against crime and corruption, as well as a guarantee for fundamental human rights and freedoms," he said.

The Minister underlined that the length of court proceedings is a key aspect of efficiency and that the length of proceedings remains one of the biggest problems in the judiciary, which generates violations of human rights.

He emphasized that the ministry fully supports the work of the platform for reforms in the judiciary and actively participates in the creation of recommendations for improving the situation in the judiciary and the public prosecution.

The theme of the 15th session of Working Group 3, Judiciary of fundamental rights is "Access to justice: Increasing the efficiency of judicial processes and the quality of judicial justice", which will result in more work engagements to improve the situation.
