Seventh failure to constitute the Assembly: Parties accuse each other, demand reflection from civil society

The Kosovo Assembly has failed to be constituted even after the seventh attempt, as the candidacy of Albulena Haxhiu from the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) for Speaker of the Assembly once again failed to receive the necessary support in Sunday's session.

After the unsuccessful vote, political parties did not hesitate to accuse each other of blocking the process.

VV MP Hekuran Murati stressed that his party has fulfilled its constitutional obligation by nominating the candidate and voting for her. He insisted that the blockade is not done by voting in favor and that VV is not responsible for the lack of other votes.

Meanwhile, PDK chairman Memli Krasniqi accused the Vetevendosje Movement of “quirks” and arbitrary insistence, stressing that without a parliamentary majority, political will cannot be imposed. He asked the Vetevendosje Movement to propose another candidate who would secure the trust of the deputies.

LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku also expressed similar views, calling on LVV to take concrete steps to resolve the situation. LDK MP Hykmete Bajrami reiterated that her party will not support Albulena Haxhiu or any other candidate proposed by VV.

From the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Daut Haradinaj requested that President Vjosa Osmani invite parliamentary parties to a meeting to find a solution, while expressing readiness to support a new candidate proposed by the majority.

In this situation, the chairman of the Social Democratic Initiative, Fatmir Limaj, also called for reflection and the building of a functional parliamentary majority that would elect the institutions, although he did not specify any specific names.

In a harsh reaction, Eugen Cakolli from Democracy in Action harshly criticized the political class for irresponsibility and lack of will to resolve the impasse, saying that the Parliament is continuing to mock the citizens.

Despite the right it gained from the February 9 elections to propose the Speaker of the Assembly, LVV has so far failed to secure the 61 votes necessary to elect Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker.

In the absence of a political agreement, the possibility of new elections is increasingly being mentioned as a last resort.Telegraph/
