Chris Brown has congratulated his ex-girlfriend Rihanna after the singer welcomed her and ASAP Rocky's first child.

"Congratulations," the rapper, 33, wrote on his InstaStory on Thursday (May 19), shortly after news of the baby's May 13 arrival broke.

The rapper included three emojis - a red heart, a pregnant woman and praying hands.

The new mother, 34 years old, has not yet spoken about the birth of her son and his name has not been revealed.

Rihanna revealed she is expecting a mother in January, almost two years after her and the 33-year-old's friendship took a romantic turn.

The couple began dating in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fenty Beauty creator told Vogue in April.

Before their romance, Rihanna dated Hassan Jameel from 2017 to 2020.

Rihanna has previously been in relationships with Drake, Travis Scott and Lewis Hamilton - but the singer-songwriter's most infamous relationship was with Brown.

The former couple began dating in 2007, splitting two years later when the actor physically assaulted Rihanna.

Brown pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced to five years probation.

When the exes reconciled in 2012, giving their relationship another chance for another year, Rihanna called the decision her "mistake" to make in an interview in January 2013.

"I decided it was more important for me to be happy," she told Rolling Stone at the time.

"I wouldn't let anyone's opinion get in the way of that. ... After struggling for so many years, being angry, I would rather just live my truth", the artist had declared.

In Brown's 2017 documentary, "Welcome to My Life," he said that Rihanna "never trusted" him again after the attack.

On the other hand, Brown is the father of three children, seven-year-old daughter Royalty, whom he shares with Nia Guzman, two-year-old son Aeko Catori with Ammika Harris and four-month-old daughter Lovely Symphani with Diamond Broë. /Telegraph/
