Elon Musk may overturn Donald Trump's Twitter ban

Elon Musk says that if his bid to buy Twitter is successful, he will overturn Donald Trump's ban from the platform.

According to the BBC, the world's richest man agreed to a $44 billion bid with Twitter's board last month.

But he said it was not a done deal and would ideally be completed in the next two to three months.

Twitter's decision to ban the former US president was "morally wrong and stupid", Musk said at the Financial Times' Future of the Car summit.

In January 2021, Twitter said the former US president's account had been "permanently suspended... due to the risk of inciting further violence" following the attack on the Capitol.

But the Tesla owner told the Financial Times: "I would lift the permanent ban, but I don't own Twitter yet."

"Banning Donald Trump did not end Trump's voice. It will strengthen it among the rightists," he said.

Musk said Trump's ban was "morally bad and stupid in the extreme."

He noted that Trump had previously said he would not return to Twitter even if his account was reinstated.

Musk said he had spoken with Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey about the issue of users being locked out of their social media accounts in response to offensive posts.

"He and I share the same opinion that permanent bans should be extremely rare and reserved for accounts that are bots or fraudulent," he said.
