The Deputy Head of the European Union in Kosovo, Eva Palotova, joined today representatives of NDI Kosovo, international partners, civil society and media at the opening of the ninth edition of DISICON — the leading regional platform addressing information integrity in the digital age.

In her opening remarks, Palotova stressed the EU's commitment to combating efforts aimed at silencing women in politics through online harassment, deepfakes and trolling. She stressed that the use of artificial intelligence in electoral and political processes should be guided by ethical principles.

This year's central theme — Elections, AI and Ethics — was considered highly topical, given the growing challenges of gender misinformation in the Western Balkans. This phenomenon, she said, continues to distort public debate and hinder the full inclusion of women in political life.

The EU in Kosovo has reaffirmed its commitment to working with NDI Kosovo and other international and local organizations to build a digital ecosystem that protects rights, strengthens democracy, and ensures that technology serves as a tool of empowerment — not an instrument to silence women's voices.
