Kurti's distancing from harsh rhetoric opens the debate: Electoral strategy or political turn?

Recent statements by the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, who distanced himself from the harsh language used during and after the February campaign – including labeling some opposition members as “animals” – have prompted reactions from political analysts, who see this change mainly as an electoral maneuver by the Vetëvendosje Movement.
Kurti, in an interview with Kanal 10, said that he had not called all the opposition with this expression and admitted that “perhaps he should have chosen a more appropriate word.” But, according to analyst Visar Ymeri, this stance does not constitute a profound political transformation.
Speaking on "Debat Plus", Ymeri stated that Kurti's softening of language is the result of electoral measurements that have shown LVV that confrontational rhetoric was seriously damaging the party.
"This is a temporary distancing, dictated by electoral calculations," Ymeri emphasized.
According to him, Vetëvendosje is trying to stop its decline in support, as harsh language and social polarization "are not bringing the results they intended, but instead are punishing them."
He added that he would like to be a sign of a new, more institutional Vetëvendosje, but that he currently sees this change mainly as a tactical maneuver before the December 28 elections.
Analyst Bekim Kabashi also believes that VV has significantly changed its electoral approach compared to the February elections. He said that Kurti's party has analyzed the results and realized that its previous behavior - including distancing itself from the media and harsh rhetoric towards the opposition - has had a negative impact on support.
"This new, more refined and more careful behavior is the result of professional measurements that have shown VV that 'bullying' and lack of media coverage have reduced the party by about 8 percent compared to 2021," Kabashi said.
Meanwhile, analyst Ylli Hoxha focused on LVV's conflict with the media, which he described as one of the biggest mistakes of the last campaign.
"It was a mistake in principle and a tactical mistake. The conflict with the media is harmful in the long term and does not bring victory. On the contrary, it has contributed to the decline of press freedom in Kosovo," said Hoxha, calling the current distancing a positive step towards rehabilitating the situation. /Telegrafi/
