Three men in Algeria were detained after attempting one of the strangest border crossings in recent memory - disguising themselves as sheep in an attempt to reach Spain.

According to local authorities, the trio reportedly covered themselves with cotton-like padding to imitate fur and altered their appearance in an attempt to blend in with the livestock being transported through the region, the Telegraph reports.

The plan began to unravel when officers noticed unusual movement among the animals and decided to inspect the vehicle more closely.

What they discovered quickly ended the effort. The men were taken into custody, and the case drew attention for both its creativity and its danger.

Officials described the episode as a reminder of the extreme measures some individuals resort to in the hope of crossing into Europe, often driven by economic hardship or limited legal migration routes.

While the incident sparked online disbelief, it also highlights the broader reality of migration pressures in parts of North Africa and the Mediterranean corridor.

Behind the unusual disguise lay a serious and complex issue - one that continues to challenge border authorities and policymakers alike. /Telegraph/
