Find Out: The Professional Dancer's Fitness Secrets

Derek Hough knows all too well how brutal dancing can be if you're not regularly and strictly conditioned

Derek Hough (34) is a professional ballet dancer and holds the record for the number of victories in the show "Dancing with the Stars" (even six times), Telegrafi reports.

Around the New Year, he sprained his leg, but thanks to the fact that he is a world-class athlete, he recovered from this injury very quickly.

His workout routine means working out five times a week, combining strength training, yoga and cardio. Also, whenever he gets the chance, he rides his bike outdoors, does boxing and swims.

Dancing is a workout in itself, so while he's on tour and performing, Derek doesn't go to the gym. However, when there is no show, he tries in every way to be in good condition.

"The eighth round a day which lasts 12 hours. All the techniques that you have mastered to be as professional as possible and to save strength, as well as the exercises with which you keep the condition, fall into the water. After a day like this, you go into survival mode," Derek tells Men's Health.

Energy, for Derek, also comes from the kitchen – if you open his fridge you'll see almond milk, celery juice, avocados, baby cucumbers, kombucha. The food is based on chicken-fish-vegetable substitution.

During tours, he especially insists on continuity, so his daily menu includes fish, quinoa, and sweet potatoes.
