Death of twins, Prilep Hospital with conclusions from the internal control commission

A social worker needs to be hired as soon as possible, who will strengthen the team and contribute to improving the overall functioning of the hospital. This has been ascertained, among other things, by the internal control commission at the Prilep hospital regarding the work of health workers in the case of the twin babies who died on January 16, one in the family home in Slavej, while the other a few hours later in the hospital. The commission has drawn several conclusions.

"From the review of the collected medical documentation, it has been confirmed that the mother has discontinued hospital treatment at her request, for which there is her signature in the relevant documentation. During her stay in the hospital, the newborns were treated in accordance with medical principles based on evidence and in accordance with the procedures of the neonatology department, including their discharge at the request of the parent," the hospital informs.

According to director Kire Jonoski, this health institution had a social worker until three years ago, and a position has also been provided for in the systematization.

The twins were born on December 30, prematurely, weighing less than two kilograms. On January 10, the mother, under her own responsibility, signed a document and left with the newborns to the family home in the village of Slavej, Prilep. On January 16, the health condition of the newborns deteriorated and the parents called an ambulance. Doctors declared the boy dead and the little girl died a few hours later in the hospital, despite the doctors' efforts to resuscitate and warm her, as both babies were frozen.
