Cristiano Ronaldo: The Manchester United star will look to break 9 records after returning to Old Trafford

Cristiano Ronaldo has made his "second debut" with the shirt of Manchester United after transferring this summer from Juventus and he already has nine records in front of him that he can break and write even more his name in the history of the English club, but also that of world football.

Ronaldo returned home this afternoon as Manchester United won 4-1 against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese star scored two goals on his 'second debut' for United and expectations are high among fans, managers and coaching staff.

The 36-year-old left the club in 2009 as the best player in the world, having won the Ballon d'Or six months earlier, and now returns as one of the greatest players of all time.

But he has unfinished business at the club.

He may have achieved almost everything in football, but, according to the site Planet Football, there are nine records that he can break after returning to the "Dream Theatre".

The Telegraph brings you all the records that CR7 can break below:

1. The first player to score 100 goals in England and Spain

Ronaldo scored 84 Premier League goals during his first spell at Man Utd before scoring 311 La Liga goals for Real Madrid. He is likely to score 16 league goals this season, which would make him the first player to reach 100 goals in both the English and Spanish leagues.

2. Most goals in a Premier League season

Ronaldo broke this record in the 2007/08 season with an amazing 31 goals. However, Mohamed Salah surpassed him in the 2017/18 season with 32 goals.

Ronaldo will be looking for his record and has already started well with two goals against Newcastle.

3. Most goals for Man Utd in one season

During the 2007/08 season, Ronaldo's total number of goals was 42. This fell short of Denis Law's record of 46 goals scored during the 1963/64 season.

Can Ronaldo do better?

4. The oldest 'Golden Boot' winner in the Premier League

Ronaldo is one of the favorites for the Golden Boot this year and, if he wins it, he will become the oldest player to win the award, beating Jamie Vardy who won it with Leicester City at the age of 33 .

5. The oldest goalscorer to score a hat-trick in the Premier League

Ronaldo managed just one hat-trick during his first spell at United.

He will have to wait until next season to become the oldest goalscorer in the league as Teddy Sheringham holds that record at 37 years and 146 days.

6. More European Cups by a single player

Ronaldo is 'Mr Champions League'. He has won Europe's elite competition on five occasions - one of which came during his first spell in Manchester.

If he wins it again, he will equal Real Madrid legend Paco Gento's haul of six trophies. He will also become the first player in the Champions League to win it six times.

7. Man Utd's record scorer in the Champions League

Ruud van Nistelrooy had a pretty good record in the Champions League for United, scoring 35 goals in 43 appearances.

But that is Ronaldo's concept and, having already scored 15 goals for the club, he will need another 21 goals in the Champions League to beat the Dutchman.

He will fancy his chances of doing so in the next two seasons…

8.Most Champions League goals in a season for Man Utd

On a similar note, Van Nistelrooy scored 12 goals in a single season in the Champions League and Ronaldo will be hoping to surpass that.

He once scored 17 goals during the 2013/14 season for Real Madrid…

9. Man Utd's record scorer

Wayne Rooney will not be too nervous about this record. Rooney scored a record 253 goals, while Ronaldo is on 118 goals - 136 goals behind the Englishman.

To put it simply, that comes down to 34 goals every season for the next four seasons.

Surely this record will not be broken by Ronaldo.
