Cramps in babies

Stomach cramps (abdominal cramps) appear after the baby is two weeks old and usually last until the third or sixth month, and sometimes even up to a year.

Cramps are part of the development phase in the baby's life, they are harmless and considered a normal condition. The cause of stomach cramps is still unknown to this day.

One of the causes of this phenomenon is considered insufficient immaturity of the enzymatic system and disorder at the level of neuromuscular nodes.

In fact, the enzymes in the intestines are sometimes not sufficiently developed, so there is a disharmony between the amount of food taken and the capacity of the enzymes and the function of the intestines. In the mother's stomach, the baby has taken the processed food.

After birth, the baby receives mother's milk with a certain density as well as with the corresponding calories, which causes problems in the digestion of the food taken. In these cases, the baby shows some movements in the form of cramps in the intestines which try to push the food.

These intestinal spasms cause great pain, which is why the baby cries loudly.

As the baby grows, its digestive tract also develops and prepares for new food, Telegrafi reports.

What can the mother do to ease the baby's stomach ache?

Holding your baby properly while breastfeeding can ease stomach cramps. The mother should take a comfortable position, lie down and bring the baby close to the breast (do not bend over the baby).

The baby needs to grasp the nipple and the surrounding surface so that the entire mouth is filled with teat, thus reducing the possibility of sucking in air.

After breastfeeding, the baby should definitely get up to yawn. It is best to be placed in the mother's harness on the side of the arm (the baby's head should be above the mother's arm).

Newer research has proven that giving different anti-cramp teas or drops does not reduce or completely eliminate cramps.

The liquid consumed will only fill the volume of the stomach (and with this the baby will receive a smaller amount of food, namely milk from the mother) but the pain will not decrease.

You will help the baby best if you breastfeed him regularly and if, when he cries in pain and worry, you support him in your harness. /Telegraph/
