Clean mattresses with the help of a pot lid

It is said that we spend a third of our lives sleeping, but surprisingly, mattresses are an often neglected place to clean.

This is what Martin Seeley, CEO of MattressNextDay, advises, who shows the reasons why you should do this.

"Mattresses can become extremely dirty over time. They accumulate dead skin cells, which serve as food for dust mites and absorb sweat, body oils and other fluids," Seeley said.

"With the flat surface of the pot lid, you distribute the pressure evenly, allowing you to gently remove dirt and allergens without damaging the mattress material," the expert claims.

“When combined with a microfiber cloth, the pot lid acts as a large-sized cleaning brush, effectively removing dirt and allergens from deep within the mattress fibers. It is environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and suitable for all types of mattresses. The size of the pot lid allows you to cover a larger area, making the cleaning process more efficient. Its weight provides enough pressure to push the detergent into the surface of the mattress,” he added.

What should you do?

First, prepare the detergent, using warm water, a small amount of laundry detergent, and a little rubbing alcohol. For tougher stains, you can add a teaspoon of baking soda.

Take a microfiber cloth and dip it in the prepared detergent, wrap it around the pot lid.

Start cleaning the mattress using circular motions. For tough stains, do this with white vinegar and baking soda before using the pot lid method.

Let the mattress dry completely before use, otherwise you may be susceptible to mold. If possible, place the mattress in sunlight to dry better, and sunlight is also a good disinfectant. /Telegraph/
