OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Translate, a standalone online translation tool that supports over 50 languages and is positioned as a direct competitor to Google Translate.

The two services look visually similar: both have two text boxes - one for typing or pasting text and another that displays the translated results.

However, there are some notable differences.

Google Translate allows users to upload various images and documents for translation.

The ChatGPT Translate homepage notes that it can translate from text, images, and voice, but support for images is not yet available.

The desktop website only supports text-to-speech translation, while browsers allow you to use text or your device's microphone.

There is currently no sign of a ChatGPT Translate app in the Apple or Google app stores, unlike Google Translate, which is available as a website and as an app. /Telegraph/
