Car buyers still skeptical of electric vehicles, Ford boss says

Consumers are still skeptical about electric cars and switching from petrol and diesel remains "a real challenge", Ford's UK boss told the BBC.

According to with the BBCLisa Brankin said more government support would be needed for the electric car market ahead of a proposed ban on new sales of petrol and diesel cars in 2030.

Research by energy regulator Ofgem suggests that 6.5 million households plan to buy electric cars by 2030.

But currently, the number of electric vehicles (EVs) in use remains low.

Research by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) found that electric cars make up just over 1 per cent of the 35 million vehicles on UK roads.

However, the numbers are growing, with sales of battery-powered cars more than doubling in the past year, while the number of plug-in hybrids also increased by more than a third. /Telegraph/
