Berlin Conference – reaffirmation of commitments

The Berlin conference on its agenda had the clear prospect of uniting Europe and for this process to intensify during this year, as a symbol of the painful memories of the centenary of the First World War.

However, the Berlin Conference led by Chancellor Angela Merkel should be viewed and described from three important dimensions in the policy-making sphere: 1) at the international level; 2) at the continental level, as well as 3) at the regional level for the Balkans and in particular for Kosovo and its effect on the Balkan Albanians.

At the international level, the Berlin Conference is showing the possession of its potential that the European Union has by demonstrating the skills and capacities to maintain the balance between the superpowers. The EU openly clarifies, at this time when Russia is strengthening its ranks to position itself as a superpower, that it is aligned in favor of democratic politics for maintaining stability and peace, removing post-communist gaps, and developing the economy inside and outside its borders. With this step, the EU is proving that it is a superpower in itself and influential in the relations between other great superpowers that are in a duel to position themselves in the new global order, which is characterized by a variety of features, but which are visible on the surface especially two types of traits: that of compromises and violent struggles.

At the continental level, the Berlin Conference is proving that despite the economic difficulties and the problems faced for the unification of the approach to integration and the membership of the states, the European Union stands faithfully in the determination for Pan-Europe. Efforts to realize the aspiration of the EU's originators are continuing, and the awareness to push this process towards finalization is expressed precisely by the participants of this conference.

At the regional level for the Balkans, this Conference is also clarifying the directives that states must implement for the benefit of these states and their citizens. For Kosovo and for the Balkan Albanians, this meeting of leaders is an omen to maintain the vital interests of national development in a peaceful manner within the pan-European umbrella. The peace achieved in the region is one of the primary issues that requires care and joint commitment, both from Albanians and from their neighbors.

The issue of peace and security is related to the development of the economy, and for this reason, the perspective of economic development for the Western Balkan region dominates, which should be encouraged and take a faster pace of development in order to reach the pace of development alongside countries in the EU.

The weight, in itself, of this conference lies in the reconfirmation of continuous commitments that the path of integrations is the only perspective that must be followed.

Definitively, at the very end, it can be said that the Berlin Conference warns that the two parties, the European Union and the participating states of the Western Balkans, aim for a point of convergence of forces for the future of this continent. This aspiration can be sustainable and powerful when the action strategy for a more secure and peaceful future is unified, which then takes regional, continental and international dimensions.
