Election betting platforms generated billions of dollars as users from around the world placed bets on who would win the US presidential election on Tuesday.

Polymarket, an online betting platform that is supposed to bar US users, collected more than $3.6 billion (€3.3 billion) in bets on the presidential election, with $1.5 billion (€1.4 billion) bet on Donald Trump's victory and a billion dollars (930 million euros) for Kamala Harris, writes skynews.

Although bets on presidential candidates were the most popular, bets on results in specific states recorded a total trading volume of over $270 million (€252 million) on Polymarket and over $120 million (€112 million) on Kalshi, a legal betting platform serving US users.

On both platforms, Pennsylvania was the state with the highest betting volume, with over $33 million (€31 million) on Polymarket and more than $14 million (€13 million) on Kalshi.

Next, Michigan and Georgia were the states with the highest betting volume, while the other deciding states were all among the top 15 states with the highest trading volume.
