Voting from the diaspora is seen as an essential process that affects the results of the elections in Kosovo. The commitment of political parties to the diaspora reflects the strategic importance of this electorate in the electoral processes.
Analysts say that the parties in these elections have taken the role of the diaspora in the elections more seriously.
Deutsche Welle journalist, Bahri Cani, has analyzed the role and developments in the Kosovar diaspora during the election period, emphasizing the importance of voting by mail that started on January 9 and will last until February 8, 2025.
Cani estimated that the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has held the largest and most organized gathering in the diaspora so far, specifically in the city of Stuttgart.
"In my opinion, PDK has had the most organized gathering in Stuttgart so far. This was the biggest meeting that was organized by a party in the diaspora," declared Cani on the Debate Plus show.
Declining support for Vetevendosje in the diaspora?
The journalist also analyzed the decline in support for the Vetëvendosje Movement in the diaspora, emphasizing that other political parties have begun to take this important segment of the electorate more seriously.
"Four years ago, support for Vetëvendosje was higher, mainly because other parties had neglected the diaspora. Now, political parties are realizing how important diaspora voting is," he added.
Analyst Sadri Ramabaja has emphasized that the Kosovar diaspora is a factor independent of clientelistic influences, voting based on personal convictions and not on political favors.
"In building democracy, the diaspora has played a decisive role. They are freed from clientelistic influences and vote completely according to their convictions,” Ramabaja said.
Analyst Imer Mushkolaj says that because the votes of the diaspora were counted at the end of the process, a false perception was created that the latter gave the victory to Albin Kurti.
"The vote of the diaspora should not be seen as a key vote for anyone's victory. The vote of the diaspora should be seen as a vote in the framework of all the votes cast by the citizens of Kosovo", stated Mushkolaj.
The influence of the diaspora vote on the final result
The analyst further said that the overall vote of the diaspora in the last elections was not more than 1/10 of the total overall vote in Kosovo.
"Just as the vote of the LVV has increased in Kosovo, the vote in the diaspora for this political subject has also increased proportionally", added Mushkolaj.
But the other analyst Bekim Kabashi does not think so, who says that the overall vote of the diaspora for the LVV was 75 percent.
"43 thousand voters from the diaspora have voted for Vetevendosje. Without the vote of the diaspora, LVV would have 45% of the votes", the analyst declared.
Kabashi says that compared to the 2010 elections, the diaspora has had a very large increase in interest in voting for the Vetëvendosje Movement./Telegrafi/
