A powerful explosion occurred today in Peja at a fuel pump, where one person lost his life.
The victim is a 45-year-old man who is suspected to be a handyman and had gone to fix a problem at the pump when the tanker explosion occurred.
According to the spokesperson of the Basic Prosecutor's Office of Peja, Shkodran Nikçi, he confirmed this for Telegrafi, informing that the competent teams immediately went to the scene.
"One person has lost his life as a result of the explosion. Firefighters, the chief prosecutor, the police and all competent bodies are at the scene," Nikçi said.
While the spokesperson of the Police for the Peja Region, Fadil Gashi, told the Telegraph that the Kosovo Police received the call for the explosion and mobilized teams to the scene.
"Around 09:40 we received information about an explosion, it is suspected that a tanker exploded at a fuel pump. We are at the scene, it is not yet known if there are any injured people," said Gashi.
Meanwhile, according to the Manager of this gas pump, Altin Mahmutaj, the victim was not part of them, but contracted by another company.
"The 45-year-old was not part of our company, but was a foreman of a contracted company," Mahmutaj confirmed to Peja in Focus, Telegrafi reports.
Due to this incident, the Pejë-Deçan road remained blocked for traffic until the completion of the necessary procedures and was released after examining the situation. /Telegrafi/
