After the Ohrid agreement, consideration of Kosovo's application to the Council of Europe is required

The President of the European Stability Initiative (ESI), Gerald Knaus, has called for the Council of Europe to consider Kosovo's application for membership in this mechanism.
Kosovo has applied for membership in the Council of Europe on May 12, 2022, while it was not included in the agenda of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe that was held on May 20, Telegrafi reports.
Although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora (MPJD) has denied that the membership process has failed, experts in the field have said that delays in this process are not good news for the country.
The representative of Great Britain, John Howell, in the session of the Parliamentary Assembly, stated that Kosovo's application to the Council of Europe should not be held hostage to the progress of the dialogue with Serbia.
While, now after reaching the agreement between the two countries for the normalization of relations that happened on March 18 in Ohrid, the chairman of ESI has said that it does not make sense to insist on the rights of minorities in Kosovo and not to wish to extend the protection of the European Court of Human Rights - mechanism of the Council of Europe - for all Kosovars.
"Will Kosovo's application for membership in the Council of Europe be sent to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe now? It makes no sense to insist on the rights of minorities in Kosovo and not to wish to extend the protection of the European Court of Human Rights to all citizens", wrote Knaus on the Twitter social network.
While the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Petrit Selimi, has described as 'deafening' the prevailing silence on this issue.
"I would like to hear a single European envoy, ambassador, diplomat, assistant, intern say loudly and clearly: Yes, Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe is now guaranteed," Selimi wrote on Twitter. /Telegrafi/
