The Clinical and University Hospital Service of Kosovo (ShSKUK) has announced that a rare intervention was successfully carried out at the Children's Surgery Clinic.

According to ShSKUK, in this clinic for the first time, on 20.12.2023, Laparoscopic Nephrectomy - "Laparoscopic Nephrectomy Ribbon Technique" was performed by the team of pediatric surgeons in collaboration with the anesthesiologists of the Anesthesiology Clinic.

It is known that the intervention was carried out in a 5-year-old child with the initials AS, diagnosed with a non-functional kidney as a result of hydronephrosis of the fourth degree.


"A week ago, another challenging case 'Laparascopic assisted pull through' was performed for the third time in a 1-year-old child with Hirschsprung's disease (congenital megacolon)," the press release states.

Furthermore, it is known that such challenging cases, which are carried out in specialized and experienced centers, have also been carried out with complete success in the Children's Surgery Clinic at KKUK.

"Where for over 4 years, laparoscopic interventions have been performed on children with various pathologies such as: intra-abdominal testis, testicular varicocele, Meckel's diverticulum, ovarian tumors, kidney cysts, laparoscopic appendectomy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy and Echinococcal cyst Liver".

"With the further advancement of 'Minimally Invasive Surgery', it will be possible to treat most pathologies with laparoscopic interventions at the Children's Surgery Clinic at ShSKUK", the announcement continues. /Telegraph/
