Zelensky and EU leaders call Trump from Tirana

European Union leaders met today in Tirana as part of the European Political Community summit, where among the attendees were French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to a post by Zelensky on X, during this meeting the leaders spoke on the phone with US President Donald Trump, writes sky news, the Telegraph reports.

As he writes, the first round of Russian-Ukrainian talks in Turkey were discussed in this call, for which Zelensky says Ukraine is ready to take the fastest possible steps to bring about real peace.

"We spoke with Donald Trump together with President Macron, Federal Chancellor Merz, Prime Ministers Starmer and Tusk. We discussed the meeting in Istanbul," Zelensky said.

"Ukraine is ready to take the fastest possible steps to bring about real peace, and it is important that the world takes a strong stance," he added.

“Our position – if the Russians refuse a full and unconditional ceasefire and an end to the killings, tough sanctions must follow. The pressure on Russia must be maintained until Russia is ready to end the war. Thank you to everyone in the world who is helping.” /Telegraph/
