White clothes can easily turn yellow and get dirty, but there is a cheap and easy solution that can solve this problem.

White clothes are sometimes difficult to wash because they can easily turn yellow from sweat and those stains won't be removed unless you use the right product.

Using bleach on your clothes may seem like a good option, but it can damage the fibers of the fabric if used too often, causing your clothes to turn gray.

Instead, textile expert and owner of Fabric Online, Thomas Bird, said the best way to remove stains and restore white clothes is simply lemon juice.

"Lemon juice is a natural and affordable solution for white clothes. Lemon contains citric acid, a natural bleaching agent that effectively breaks down even the most stubborn stains. Unlike chemical bleaches, it removes stains from your clothes without the risk of damage, making it a perfect alternative for whitening white clothes," he said.

The acid in lemon juice can react with stains like sweat to dissolve them, and it will also loosen dirt and help clean your white shirts.

Lemon juice also has natural antibacterial properties that can remove odors from clothes. However, since lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent, it should not be used on dark or colored clothing as it will bleach the fabric.

"While lemon juice works wonders on white clothes, its bleaching effect can fade colored fabrics. So to avoid unwanted damage, make sure to use this trick only on your white clothes," Bird added.

All you need to do is squeeze the juice of three fresh lemons and pour it into a glass. Then pour the lemon juice into the detergent drawer of your washing machine and also add your regular laundry detergent.

It is better to use fresh lemons instead of bottled lemon juice because it has a higher concentration of citric acid, which is the ingredient needed to break down stains.

Set your machine to a normal wash cycle and let the magic happen. After washing, let your clothes dry as usual and you will see a noticeable difference as they dry. Once you take your clothes out of the machine, they should be bright, completely cleaned and stain-free.

However, if you can, place white clothes outside in the sun to dry as the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight will react with the citric acid, which will also increase the cleaning power and brighten the fabric.
