Can you find the answer to this 'Harvard math problem'?

A math problem from years past, which allegedly appeared during an admissions interview at Harvard University, has resurfaced on social media.

In the task, they claim that 95 percent of people cannot solve it, and according to the comments, many of them still have difficulty finding the correct answer.

"Seven men have seven wives. Each person, both male and female, has seven children. What is the total number of people?" is the assignment.

User responses are varied and range from 21 to 448.

"This is a play on words," one person commented, and another added: "There are several answers and none of them are wrong."

"This is an ambiguous question, which I think is the purpose of the assignment," commented a third, guessing it was a question with two correct answers. /Telegraph/
