After a difficult season at the helm of Barcelona last season, Xavi Hernandez decided to take a year off after two and a half years of intense activity for the former midfielder. With the end of this break, Xavi's name is back on the radar of major European teams.
Roma and Manchester United reportedly spoke to Xavi at the start of the season as they began their search for potential successors to Daniele de Rossi and Erik ten Hag respectively. However, both were told that Xavi would be out of the game for at least a year after a stressful end to his time as a manager.
In theory, Xavi is now open to working again. With Xabi Alonso on his way to Real Madrid, it seems likely that Bayer Leverkusen have begun the search for his successor.
Former United boss Ten Hag and Real Sociedad coach Imanol Alguacil have been linked with the job, with the latter set to leave Anoeta at the end of the season.
According to Kicker, Leverkusen are interested in Xavi. He is valued for his playing style, international experience and command of English. They have been in contact with the Catalan coach and have not received a negative response from his camp.
It would be interesting to see Xavi in action away from Barcelona. As a player and coach at Barcelona, Xavi's only experience with both in his career was at Al-Sadd in Saudi Arabia.

Xavi also fits the profile perfectly and seems to be open to a move to Leverkusen. Both of them speak English, which is essential, and ten Hag also speaks German.

While it could help Xavi stay away from the spotlight and tensions with the local media, he would be without the knowledge of any club he joins, in the same way he did at Barcelona.
