Spanish football coach Xabi Alonso was fired yesterday (Monday) from the Real Madrid bench, where he spent only half a year.

The sacking came after it became clear that Alonso had lost influence in the dressing room and that relations with the players were not in the best state, and today he broke his silence and spoke publicly for the first time.

Alonso decided to send a message to Real Madrid fans through a post on his private profile on the social network Instagram.

"This period of my professional life has ended and it did not go as we wanted. Training with Real Madrid has been a challenge and a responsibility for me, every day. I thank the club, the players and above all the Madrid fans for their trust and support - I leave with respect and pride for having given everything to the club," Alonso wrote in his message.

Xabi Alonso joined Real Madrid before the start of this season from Bayer Leverkusen and in the 28 matches he led the team, he achieved a record of 20 wins, three draws and five losses.

However, a four-point gap in La Liga behind leaders Barcelona and unconvincing performances in the Champions League suggested an early split could occur, which ultimately materialised.

We remind you that Real Madrid instead of Alonso appointed Alvaro Arbeloa, the former coach of the B team, or Real Castilla, which he led in the Spanish third league. /Telegraph/
