World stars react to the death of Queen Elizabeth II

Dozens of celebrities have shared their tributes to Queen Elizabeth II following the announcement of her death on Thursday afternoon (September 8) at the age of 96.

Buckingham Palace confirmed leaving millions around the world shocked by the tragic loss. She was reportedly surrounded by her family at the time of her death.

Soon after, emotional messages from Hollywood's biggest stars came in - as they paid tribute to her many achievements and hard work over the past 70 years as queen. Dailymail.


Barbara Streisand, 80, with a career spanning six decades, paid tribute on Instagram alongside a photo of her meeting the Queen in March 1975.

"I am sorry to hear of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. She was a constant for all of us. Respected worldwide. Rest in peace", she wrote.

Kim Kardashian posted a black-and-white photo of Her Majesty posing at Buckingham Palace in 1958 with the simple caption: "Rest in Peace."

Legendary singer Diana Ross, 78, who performed at the sovereign's Platinum Jubilee in June with a new song written for the occasion, echoed similar sentiments following her death.

"Thank you to Her Majesty, the Queen. She dedicated her life to her country and to the service of others. I am delighted to be able to thank Her Majesty at this year's Platinum Jubilee. With love and condolences to her entire family, we all celebrate her life," Ross wrote.

English singer-songwriter Dua Lipa shared a classic black and white photo of the Queen, while model Hailey Bieber shared her shock on social media.

"Wow... Rest in peace, Queen," she wrote on Instagram.

Kris Jenner, Whoopie Goldberg, William Shatner, Barack and Michelle Obama, Jennifer Garner and Melinda Gates led those who are remembering the Monarch and her seven-decade reign.

“Rest in peace, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Nice, dedicated, elegant, unforgettable," Kris wrote.

Whoopie recalled the first time she met the Monarch at the Royal Variety Performance in 2009.

Jennifer shared a stunning portrait of the Queen on Instagram, which she captioned, "What an elegant and incredible woman."

William, best known for his role on Star Trek, said he was 'deeply saddened' by her death.

"I was saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth," he tweeted.

The ex-wife of Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, Melinda, shared an emotional post, writing: “For almost three quarters of a century – and a world transformed many times over – Her Majesty was an unequal reign.

"I will cherish the kindness that Queen Elizabeth II gave to our family and the extraordinary leadership, resilience and example she set for us all," she said.

Bill, for his part, also shared his feelings, writing: “I feel honored to have met Queen Elizabeth and very saddened to hear of her passing. My deepest condolences to the Royal Family and the British people."

Barack and Michelle said in a joint statement posted on their Twitter accounts that they were "joining many others who are celebrating her life and mourning her passing."

"Michelle and I were lucky enough to know Her Majesty and she meant a lot to us," Barack wrote.

"When we began our lives as President and First Lady, she welcomed us onto the world stage with open arms and extraordinary generosity. Time and time again, we were struck by her warmth, the way she put people at ease and how she brought her considerable humor and charm to moments of grandeur and circumstance," they wrote.

"Like many of you, Michelle and I are grateful to have witnessed Her Majesty's dedicated leadership, and we are in awe of her legacy of tireless and dignified public service," Obama concluded in the statement.

The pair added that she reigned with 'grace, elegance and a tireless work ethic' as she 'defied the odds and expectations placed on women of her generation'.

Janet Jackson shared a photo of herself meeting the Queen, which she captioned, "Rest in Peace, Queen."

Star Trek actor George Takei said his thoughts were with the 'royal family and the people of the United Kingdom'.

“In her time, the Queen saw a country and indeed a world transformed. There will be no one else like her," he added.

Paris Hilton called her 'the original Girl Boss' and 'one of the most inspirational women', calling her 'the end of an era'.

Designer Stella McCartney said: "It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Her Majesty The Queen today."

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump shared an emotional post paying tribute to the Queen, explaining that while everyone 'knew the day was imminent', she was feeling an 'overwhelming sadness' over the loss of ' one of the most inspiring women in the world".

Victoria Beckham said she was 'deeply saddened' by the loss, writing: "Today is a very sad day for the whole world."

"I am deeply saddened by the death of our beloved Monarch, Her Majesty the Queen. "She will be remembered for her loyalty and unwavering service and my thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time," Victoria said.

Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs praised Her Majesty for 'raising above all debate about privilege or political controversy' and 'dedicating her life to public service and duty'.

Fashion icon Donatella Versace said we have 'lost one of the greatest women in the world'.

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II showed us how to live our lives. She lived with grace, courage, hard work, loyalty and kindness," she added.

Helen Mirren, who played Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 film The Queen, wrote: “I'm proud to be an Elizabethan. We mourn a woman who, with or without a crown, was the epitome of nobility."

"For my entire life, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has always been there," Rolling Stone singer Mick Jagger said in a tweet.

American journalist Maria Shriver paid tribute to her 'extraordinary life of public service': "The Queen served her country, to the end, with class, strength, dignity and honour".
