Why did water flow from the Llogara Tunnel? Expert explains the phenomenon that went viral

One of the many viral images of the floods that have lasted for about a week in the country was the moment that showed water leaking from the ceiling in the Llogara Tunnel.
While he was a guest on the show "Opinion” in Clan TV, water resources management expert, Arduen Karagjozi, explained the process from a geological point of view, as to why this might have happened.
Studio chat:
Blendi Fevziu: There was water in some segments of the Llogara Tunnel, which seemed a bit strange to me. Karagjozi, what could it be? No water came out there during the tunnel opening works, meaning it was completely dry. Now it is very hard rock.
Arduen Karagjozi: Because the works were generally carried out in dry weather and there was not this intensity of rainfall.
Blendi Fevziu: He worked there for 3 years, winter and summer...
Arduen Karagjozi: Klodi knows better, but from the information I know from geology, there are limestone geological formations, which filter water from the mountain, and the fact that there are no springs at all in the lower part, means that they do not capture any strata that would create water retention above and, normally, all the water, as it falls from the mountain, enters these spaces that have limestone rock and goes towards the sea. In this case, the tunnel has penetrated these layers and, in cases where it rains, this drains water above.
Blendi Fevziu: But this happened this time, because it rained for a year...
Arduen Karagjozi: Yes, because this time the water level was higher and created a greater load than the previous ones.
Blendi Fevziu: Does it cause damage?
Arduen Karagjozi: I don't believe it, it's a pressure release. I believe there will be a water-stop in the part that connects the two segments to each other, but the pressure this time must have been greater, but I don't believe there will be any stability problems in any case.
