Why countries want to join the EU and not the US, Belgian PM reveals

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever has commented on the countries' pull towards the European Union, highlighting the difference between the EU and other global powers.
“People want to join the European Union. Nobody wants to join China. No neighbor of the United States says: ‘We want to join the United States.’ Nobody wants to,” De Wever declared.
He added that the main reason why aspiring countries aim for the EU is the respect that this community has earned internationally.
"They want to join the European Union simply because we have respect. We have the rule of law. We speak softly," the Belgian Prime Minister said.
The comments come at a time when European integration and relations with global powers are at the center of political debate on the continent.
Otherwise, the US insists that the Danish island of Greenland be part of the American state. /Telegraph/
