The new NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, has stated that the admission of any new member to the Alliance requires the unanimous approval of member countries.

Referring to Ukraine's application to join, he said that not all member states are currently in agreement.

"According to NATO rules, a new ally requires unanimity. All members must agree, and some allies are against Ukraine's membership," said the head of the most powerful military alliance.

The statement comes at a time when Ukraine continues to seek greater political and military support from the Alliance, while the membership process remains blocked due to a lack of consensus.

Rutte stressed that dialogue between allies will continue, but decision-making requires full agreement among the 32 member states.

Otherwise, the US is one of the main countries that opposes the Ukrainian state's membership in NATO. /Telegraph/
