Gilmando Dani, 36, was killed this Tuesday afternoon near Rinas Airport after being shot with a hail of bullets..
Dani was a well-known name for justice, also known for his social connections with Emiljano Shullazi.
The 36-year-old has been the target of assassination attempts twice more, in 2011 and 2015. Just a year ago, in October 2024, he was released from prison.
Dani has been at the center of police attention, especially after the August 7, 2009 incident, when Dritan Dajti killed four police officers in Durrës. At that time, Dani's apartment was searched, as it was suspected that he might have been in the area on the day of the incident.
Later, the police clarified that he was in Tirana and that it turned out that he had no connection to the massacre in Durrës. As part of the investigation, the Serious Crimes Prosecution blocked his passport for several days, a measure that was lifted after no evidence was found to implicate him.
His name has been frequently mentioned in police operations, verification calls and control procedures, based mainly on operational information linking his social circle to other individuals investigated for criminal activity.
